trying to find out why pellet stoves can have a 6" front floor protection and a woodstove needs 18" im thinking that it is because the front door of the stove is not a "loading" door but im looking for codebook confirmation. im thinking the ASTM E 1509 standard is the one which gives this but i dont have a copy handy to referrence

ya out there brother ELK????

no but the ul listing should cover that aspect. i'd guess that because noone opens the door on a pstove while running, xcept me, has a lot to do with it.
btw i'm currently adding sawdust into my 25pdvc into a ss basket that sits on the burnpot, shovelfull every 1/2 hr. with burnrate @ 1-5 & exhaust blower @1...fire seems fine so i'd guess there is ample excess combustion air even on this low setting...LOVE THE STOVE'S DESIGN... i also added a plate to block the exhaust from firepot going directly to the exhaust blower. now smoke has to travel away from the exhaust blower before before exiting the stove

yeah , im thinking thats the reason , simply that its not a "loading" door so it doesnt need the 18 inch clearance required with traditional wood stoves on the side of the loading door.

what im looking for is the specific publication which states this
