well guys , im in the donor biz(sorta) now it seems. im transporting a pellet stove and the needed venting to akron ohio in the middle of august for a donor install. the family who will recieve the unit are in the process of recovering from a rather large heating bill of last winter leaving them approx 1600 dollars behind, this was exascerbated by the loss of a family member who lived in alabama, cost of travel and funeral expenses along with the heating bill have forced them to endure cold showers and heat water on the stove to give warm baths to the kids as the gas company has cut off their supply.
i talked to the boss and he will release a 25-pdvc , and simpson duravent is providing the associated venting needed for a basement installation of the unit into the home

so , anyone interested in lending a hand , materials are covered , just looking to see if anyone is local to the akron area and might have a saturday to spare, gimme a shout , looking at mid month august , im driving up friday evening from VA with the stove and venting and will be heading back sunday food and beverages will be on me of course. i intend to take pictures and possibly videotape the install if i can work out the logistics on the video so even if you guys are too far away to lend a hand you should still get to see how it went.

Akron is about two hours from me. Not exactly local, but if the dates work out, I would love to be a part of the install team.

Keep me posted!

looks like install will be the weekend of the 15th august and it will be a 10-cpm unit , not a 25-pdvc

as a side note , eric from Kinsman stoves contacted me visa the other forum about pellets so i guess i'll be making a side trip out to see him while im up there.

i'd like to take a second to thank eric for taking the time to contact me to ensure i was able to procure pellets he's definately a good guy in my book and i'd recommend him to anyone in the northeast ohio area if shopping for a stove or pellets , he has them in abundance. located in the massilon area, look him up under www.kinsmanstoves.com

EDIT: i mistyped eric's link , my bad hope it wasnt an issue , if it didnt work try it again now it will work, nice site from a nice store

donor install to happen this weekend , my wife and i are driving up to akron ohio tomorrow to install the unit. this unit is a refurbished unit (which i did personally last saturday) basement installation. due to the layout it will be a basement installation we will be removing a glass block inoperable type "window" which is set into the basement wall, venting through it. i hope to arrive and download the stove tomorrow evening (we have plenty of strong backs to get the unit off the silverado) and hopefully get the glass blocks removed and the area prepped. the unit will sit on a 4X4 R-CO (UL listed stoveboard) and be vented with simpson duravent 3 inch pellet vent. on saturday morning we will be paying a visit to Eric at Kinsman Stove to pick up a ton of pellets (i will be purchasing them at my insistance) im looking forward to visiting his shop and having "worked" with him in the forums i feel strongly about recommending him and his products and service to anyone in his area.

i realise this is short notice as i was intending on it being done next weekend however duty calls i have to do a video shoot during that time and had to move this up. anyone who has read the prelude to this and was possibly looking to help, i appreciate the thought and i apologize for the short notice, if anyone is still interested and can make it even with this short notice , call me at 434-401-0648 tomorrow and we can kick it around , i will be on the road but my cell service is nationwide so you should be able to get me

thank you's include R-Co stoveboards, Simpson Duravent, Eric at Kinsman Stoves, anyone who does make it to help, and above all Ron England, Carroll Hudson, and the folks at ESW for giving me the opportunity to do this. warmth doesnt always come from a heating appliance, the best kind of heat comes from the warmth of friendship and community.

i intend to shoot photo's during the installation , and am hoping to blog it , i'll definately post a link for the blog when i return.[/b]

ok, good news/bad news

Good news, arrived friday afternoon , unloaded stove, managed to get it into the basement without killing someone. (steep staircase, was a tight fit) plus having to remove the door to the house to get past the knob.

saturday morning , got up wife and i drove to Kinsman and visited Eric from Kinsman stove, who was kind enough to sell me a ton of pellets at a really nice rate, toured his stores as well. bade goodbye to eric and went back to the site with the pellets , downloaded in garage.

the installation went very smoothly , first we removed a "glass block window" wasnt a serviceable window , but kinda like a basement skylight made of 5 inch glass blocks. framed in the window opening with treated 2X4 and treated plywood around the framed area for the pass through installed the pass through.

set the stove (i had already gotten the measurements prior to leaving from the homeowner) and ran simpson corn vent pipe (stove is a multifuel though they will likely never burn anything but pellets in their area) from the unit , up 4ft elbow through, out 2ft,(sealing each section) TEE then up 9 ft then elbowed away and attached a 1 ft section and the horizontal cap. the 9 ft vert outside was to get above the first floor window just off from directly above the vent window.

attached the vent to the stove with sealer and screws, let it set up for an hour and fired the unit , burned flawlessly for 2 hours , had to shut it down as it was getting a bit toasty in the basement.

now the bad news
while we were doing the install , i was merrily snapping away with the digital, right up to its getting knocked off the window sill i had been setting it on , into a fishtank. needless to say , i went camera shopping when i got home. so as of yet i have no pictures. homeowner says she will snap some pictures and mail em down soon , so i may be able to upload some of those when i get em. so stay tuned "film at 11" hopefully.

P.S. im still pissed, i liked that camera Sad

Good Job, Mike!

The pictures don't matter (would be nice to have them, though.... and your camera back in working condition)

What matters is the installation, and the time and effort you took to do it...

Congrats!!!
